Description and Table of Contents
Description
This supplement issue of Digestive Diseases highlights recent developments in the field of gastrointestinal motor function and dysfunction. Authored by leading specialists, the articles focus on three main areas: esophagus, midgut and colon. Progress in achalasia, upper esophageal sphincter manometry and the contribution of motility abnormalities to gastroesophageal reflux disease are covered in the esophageal section. A critical evaluation of antroduodenal manometry is featured in the midgut section. The reviews in the colon section cover diagnostic techniques for defecation dynamics, biofeedback therapy for defecation disorders, the role of surgery in anorectal motility disorders and the role of colonic motility in guiding therapy in patients with constipation. The issue concludes with a review of the current and future status of prokinetic compounds.
