Description and Table of Contents

Description

The International Teletraffic Congress (ITC) has since its inception in 1955 focused on the application of theoretical and simulation models to the design and performance analysis of communication networks. This tradition was continued which created a forum for discussion of current research, to disseminate information about "best practice", and to encourage cross-fertilization between different technical and technology specialists.Over the last few conferences there has been a gradual re-focusing of interest, with two revolutionary changes in the sector acting as catalysts. These are rapid technical transformations and an increasingly competitive market. These changes were reflected by deliberately encouraging papers that consider new technologies, regulation, economics and pricing. The papers that appear in this volume have been refereed by International experts, and in addition were looked at individually by advocates on the National Technical Committee and again at the final Technical Programme meeting in London. The quality of submission was high, 16 plenary and 115 contributed papers that reflected the major themes were selected. These and invited papers focussed on the key areas of the Internet and Mobility, coupled with hot-topics sessions targeted at developing countries link together to form an exciting programme.
