Entries have been supplied by the US Department of Agriculture, the Solid Waste Association of America, the Council of Forest Industries of British Columbia, and others. The work reflects author Webster's special expertise in key areas of environmental study, including water and pollution control, municipal utilities and forestry. Examples: GRABEN Downthrown block between two normal faults. NEPHELOMETER Instrument used to compare the turbidity of solutions by passing a beam of light through a transparent tube and measuring the ratio of the intensity of the scattered light to that of the incident light. SUPERNATANT Liquid standing above a sediment or precipitate. TREMIE Pipe or tube through which concrete is deposited under water, having at its upper end a hopper for filling and a bail for moving the assemblage.
