Description
Analyzes two foundational texts of early Romanticism in Germany, the Herzensergiessungen eines kunstliebenden Klosterbruders and Phantasien uber die Kunst, fur Freunde der Kunst. Examines the narrative framework created through the functions of these works' narrators as both narrators and characters in their own narration, to reveal new dimensions to old, long recognized aesthetic debates in the texts. Also discusses authorship questions, and conceptions of art and artists.
