Refined vehicles with reduced environmental impact are demanded by the marketplace and by government legislation. These goals have to be achieved in a highly competitive market, where reduced costs, reducer weight and the use of advanced materials also play major roles. The vision of refined vehicles has to be achieved through "smart" design and implemented in practical development tools. "Noise and Vibration - Advances in Research and Development" will centre on recent developments in noise and vibration technology, with a view to stimulation and promotion of developments in technology and research. Including contributions from experts in research institutes and other centres of excellence, these papers provide an opportunity to discuss the issues and the science, while also looking at the related political environmental topics. The key areas covered are: road vehicle noise and vibration; jet aircraft noise reduction; railway noise research; sound in buildings; musical instruments acoustics; measurement method; and design.
