内容説明

This book is a concise yet comprehensive review of the undergraduate medical curriculum. It has been designed as a workbook in which students and doctors will add their own notes to the framework provided - the "bare bones" of medicine to which the reader will add the flesh. Although primarily intended as a means of consolidation and revision for medical students approaching their final examinations, it is also eminently suitable for many other groups in the health care profession as a quick reference source and rapid checklist of the essentials of all the major clinical specialities. During the course of preparing this book, the authors have consulted many different sources, including textbooks, journals and lectures, in order to increase its potential usefulness to doctors, nurses, general practitioners, consultants, lecturers and teachers. Anyone taking higher examinations in medicine should therefore be able to use it to remind themselves of some of the subjects which they have not practised for some years; to the junior doctor it will be of value because it summarises investigations, differential diagnoses and management; for nurses and those in the paramedical professions the book will provide some insight into the diseases which they treat; specialists and consultants will use parts of the book to brush up on subjects with which they may have become out of touch; lecturers and teachers will use it as a convenient summary of the student curriculum. Each system of the body is considered in turn with respect to medical and surgical aspects so that the reader can obtain a holistic view of each topic. The form of each chapter is such that the reader can refer to lists for quick revision and the text for a more comprehensive survey of the subject matter. The glossary probably constitutes a comprehensive list of common medical abbreviations which on its own will act as a most useful tool to unravel the mysteries of "notes" and "request forms".
