Description and Table of Contents

Description

This book has been written to aid both primary and secondary teachers with using investigations in their mathematical lessons. It is particularly useful for the Using and applying Mathematics strand of the English and Welsh National curriculum and the problem solving aspect of the Scottish guidelines. It contains 40 investigations. All the investigations have a statement of the problem which is designed to be both readily understandable and to contain an aspect of challenge. Each one also has a commentary which describes possible approaches and indicates the links with other strands of the mathematical curriculum. The first 18 investigations have fuller commentaries than the others and include advice from a wider use of the material in the classroom and ideas for extensions. This book is an excellent resource for all teachers and shows what can be achieved by using a problem solving approach in the mathematics classroom.
