内容説明

Designed to aid all those responsible for the placement and mental health of refugees, this study examines the available literature on the effects of torture, terror and exile, in order to focus on the mental well-being of the survivors and to provide techniques for psychological assistance. Scientific information is related to the experiences required by psychologists and psychiatrists in the provision of assistance to the victims and their relatives. The discussion of facts and theory is related, wherever possible, to practical experience. In order to make the book accessible to people with little knowledge of psychology, some basic concepts of psychological theory relevant to the understanding of mental problems is discussed. Although these concepts will be familiar to psychologists, they will be explained and related to the specific experiences of refugees. A practical chapter on the use of psychoactive drugs in the treatment of refugees has been included for the benefit of general practitioners.
