内容説明
These ten essays survey the Cold War in the American West from the end of World War II to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. In four decades the political, economic, and military war against Communism helped transform the American West from a dependent internal colony to a national trend setter. Each contributor explores a major historical theme: environment, politics, culture, military industrial complex, religion, counter cultures, race, class, gender, cities, population, and the Pacific frontier. All contributions are broadly interpretive and accessible to students and general readers. A bibliographical essay follows each piece.
