内容説明

This is a photographic documentation of the tradition of tours made by the British Royal family from 1860 until 1927. Begun during Queen Victoria's reign, these tours were closely associated with the heyday of British Imperialism. The first visit covered is the successful tour of Canada and the USA in 1860 by Edward, Prince of Wales, later Edward VII. Other trips include the 1879-1882 world tour by the two sons of the Prince of Wales, Prince Albert Victor and Prince George (later George V), the coronation of George V as Emperor of India at Delhi in 1911, which was the only coronation of a British monarch to take place in another country and the visit by the Duke and Duchess of York to New Zealand in 1927. (Prince Albert, Duke of York, became King George VI). The book also includes many rare photographs from national collections of former Empire countries as well as from the Royal Archives at Windsor, including some from Queen Mary's own albums. John Fabb is also author of "The British Empire from Photographs: India" and "The British Empire from Photographs: Africa".
