内容説明
The International Yearbook series is designed to help anyone who wants to keep up-to-date with developments in library science and information management on a global basis. Each volume includes papers covering existing issues, emergent debates, models of best practice and likely future developments, contributed by an international panel of researchers, practitioners and academics. The first volume of this annual publication provides a focus on the theme of collection management. This broad subject area is examined from a variety of perspectives, including a narrative bibliography on the subject, supported by a range of historical, analytical and evaluative essays on the past, present and likely future of collection management.
Individual contributions cover the following topics: the access-ownership debate; acquisitions and access; censorship; collection assessment; collection development programmes in Africa and Asia; collection management in school libraries; the impact of digital information on the roles of collection managers; cooperative collection development; economics of collection development; electronic publications; managing government documents collections; policy issues in collection management; preservation management; selection in an electronic environment; serials management; storage facilities and services; the role of archives in the information age and their influence on collection management; and weeding. Chapters comprise a mix of research-based, practice-based and reflective scholarly studies and report on developments internationally.
