Meyer Schapiro, legendary art historian, multidisciplinary critic, and inspiring teacher, was a leading figure in the intellectual and artistic life of New York from the early days of his association with Columbia University in the 1930s as a lecturer and then a professor, until his death in 1996 at the age of 91. The main portion of the book consists of over 200 of Meyer Schapiro's own artworks, reproduced in both color and black-and-white, that have been carefully selected by Dr. Lillian Milgram Schapiro, with the assistance of her nephew, Daniel Esterman.
