内容説明

This new edition of the extremely popular textbook introduces the reader to the latest release of SPSS. New to this release is the enhanced Data Editor, which presents the user with two alternative Data Editor windows: Data View (as in previous releases) and Variable View, which displays the names and details of each variable in rows. In addition, SPSS 10 continues to offer the powerful Viewer output manager first introduced with SPSS 8, which gives greater editorial control over content and appearance and enables the user to produce tables, charts and graphs of a much higher quality. The first six chapters and associated exercises provide an introduction to the basics of working with SPSS, while the remaining chapters cover more advanced topics such as various ANOVA designs, correlation and regression, loglinear analysis, discriminant analysis and, new to this edition, logistic regression. Further important changes and additions have also been made, prompted partly by readers' responses to earlier editions. Given modern familiarity with the PC, the first chapter 'The Personal Computer' has now been replaced with an expanded and consolidated discussion of basic research principles and advice on choosing a statistical test. Chapter 6 has been expanded to include a new section on One-sample Tests, including the one-sample t-test and various goodness-of-fit tests. In addition, to facilitate and test deeper understanding of the material covered, this edition includes a separate section of stand-alone exercises, which require the reader to decide upon an appropriate analysis without the aid of chapter context. As always, plentiful screen images of menus, dialogue boxes and output help the reader both to use SPSS 10 and understand the output. At all times, the authors have concentrated upon clarity and pser friendliness and avoided compendious detail. This, combined with a breadth of coverage much greater than that offered by most comparable texts, will ensure that this book continues to prove invaluable to the experienced researcher, postgraduate and undergraduate alike. In summary, SPSS for Windows Made Simple (Release 10): * introduces the reader to the use of SPSS 10 in the Windows environment * shows you how to get as much information from your data as possible * gives advice on choosing a statistical test * offers cautions and caveats about the use and abuse of statistics * has plentiful screen images of menus and dialogue boxes * illustrates data exploration and statistical analysis with fully annotated output * contains an abundance of worked examples * includes both chapter-specific and more general practical exercises * has a comprehensive index.
