Description

This study of Jamaican folk music illustrates the effects of acculturation. The majority of the 200 musical examples are Jamaican, with some British and West African music to help show comparative points made in the text. There is an appraisal of the many different races that make up the Jamaican population which account for the different categories of ethnic music in Jamaica. In addition to the ethnic analysis, this study also covers areas of play, work and religion.
