Description and Table of Contents

Description

This volume examines the problems and risks encountered in feeding very small preterm infants and offers expert guidelines for providing nutrition to these infants. Key issues addressed include the nutrient requirements of extremely low-birthweight infants, the vulnerability of the immature gastrointestinal tract, and the safety concerns surrounding iron and other pro-oxidant nutrients. Close attention is given to the optimal use of parenteral nutrition, the clinical management of early enteral nutrition, and the benefits of human milk and human milk fortifiers
