This volume presents findings on the biological, neuropathological, and clinical aspects of schizophrenia and explores innovative treatment strategies based on the latest scientific research. Topics examined in depth include the genetics of schizophrenia, the positive negative distinction, in vivo studies of brain morphology, serotoninergic and dopaminergic mechanisms in schizophrenia, and the neuroanatomical specificity of action of a typical antipsychotic drugs. The authors discuss strategies for pharmacological treatment of neuroleptic nonresponders, examine the correlations between plasma levels and clinical effects of antipsychotic drugs, and assess the efficacy of low-dose treatment regimens.
