内容説明

This is the narrative of a British embassy to the court of Kashgar 1873-1874 of which H.W. Bellew was a member. Written in the style of a narrative, this book touches upon the history, customs, geography, politics of the areas that the deputation took. Starting from Srinagar in Kashmir, they made way to Leh in Ladakh via the Zojila pass. On the way they shopped at the monasteries along the route and offered its descriptions. Continuing, they passed over the Khandungla pass (now known as the highest motorable road in the world at 18340 feet AMSL)) along the Nubra valley over the Karakoram pass to Shahidulla from thence they entered Kashgar. The narrative gives a lively account of Kashagar which was then a major stop on the silk road. The embassy, after completing it mission there returned to Leh.
