Terrorism strikes at the very heart of everything the United Nations stands for. It presents a global threat to democracy, the rule of law, human rights and stability. Globalization brings home the importance of a truly concerted international effort to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. This book contains a compilation of the various treaties, conventions and protocols that have been adopted by the international community over the past four decades, in order to combat the global threat of terrorism. The book is divided into four parts: universal treaties relating to the prevention and suppression of international terrorism; instruments adopted at the regional level; United Nations declarations that have provided the legal framework for international action in recent years; and other relevant international treaties. This publication aims to be a reference point for the international community on how to further strengthen efforts to combat terrorism, and so reinforce the rule of international law and human rights.
It is not an exhaustive collection, and does not contain instruments relating to other forms of criminality such as drug trafficking, the illegal arms trade or money laundering.
