Noise is both environmentally unfriendly and a hazard to health. Legislation, with respect to measurements and control, has rightly become increasingly stringent. Engineers, generally, other than those expert in the subject, do not have an adequate understanding of how noise is generated, how it is transmitted, or how can be measured and controlled. As well as identifying standards relevant to measurement of noise from pumps, the papers presented in this volume look at several areas including fundamental concepts of noise transmission, general principles of noise reduction, and effective noise control.
