The operating conditions of plain bearings have been made more severe in many recently developed engines. This change has pushed working conditions near to the limits of some bearing materials. It thus calls for a better understanding of the bearing operating conditions, and development of new bearing materials. "Fluid Film Bearings - Recent Advances in Design and Performance" reviews the latest core developments in fluid film bearing technology and practice, in relation to the selection of bearing materials, and enhancements in the design and manufacture of various types of bearings.
