Description and Table of Contents
Description
The operating conditions of plain bearings have been made more severe in many recently developed engines. This change has pushed working conditions near to the limits of some bearing materials. It thus calls for a better understanding of the bearing operating conditions, and development of new bearing materials. "Fluid Film Bearings - Recent Advances in Design and Performance" reviews the latest core developments in fluid film bearing technology and practice, in relation to the selection of bearing materials, and enhancements in the design and manufacture of various types of bearings. The papers presented in the volume are taken from a focal one-day seminar and cover the following topics: overall performance of plain bearings and their selection; experience with different plain bearing materials; design and analysis of steadily loaded journal bearings; performance of a novel configuration of journal bearings; measurement of the dynamic characteristics of fluid film bearings; applications of advance predictive tools in reciprocating engine bearing analysis; and problems and failure of plain bearings.
"Fluid Film Bearings - Recent Advances in Design and Performance" should be valuable reading for engineers and designers involved in the concept, construction, testing or commissioning of fluid film bearings.
