New information and communication technologies are transforming the economic landscape, bringing unparalleled opportunity and change. This publication is an outcome of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) Forum on 'Electronic Commerce for Transition Economies in the Digital Age'. The objectives of the Forum were to promote the development of the Internet and electronic commerce in transition economies as well as review the existing infrastructure and identify the needs for capacity building. The Forum not only raised awareness of the current situation, but also provided a vision of the vast potential and upcoming opportunities for transition economies.
