This work is designed for anyone interested in the performance of serological tests for syphilis, but in particular laboratory worker. The authors recognize that there are variations in serological practice between laboratories and present here various methods which can be used for serological tests. The authors also include information on treponemal diseases, the related serological responses and the scientific basis of the medical laboratory technology involved in order to provide an understanding of the nature of the tests and the disease.
