内容説明

This is the standard reference work on semiconductors used by scientists and researchers as well as engineers in the industry. While silicon is the backbone of the worldwide semiconductor industry, it is an indirect gap material, which seriously hampers its use for light emitting or even lasing devices. This work discusses current ideas to overcome this problem by forming group IV quantum structures like Si/Ge superlattices, quantum wires and quantum dots, or nanocrystals.

目次

Basic properties, growth and preparation methods of group IV heterostructures.- Influence of strain on bandstructure.- Single and coupled quantum wells: SiGe.- Optical properties of Si/Ge superlattices.- Si, Ge, and SiGe quantum wires and quantum dots.- Luminescence and related properties of nanocrystalline porous silicon.

内容説明

Volume III/34 summarizes our current knowledge of semiconductor quantum structures. Subvolumes 34A and 34B cover growth structuring and doping, and electronic transport, respectively. Subvolume 34C deals with the optical properties. Subvolume 34C1 offers the theoretical and experimental basis as well as data on III-V, I-VII and IV-VI semiconductors. The present subvolume 34C2 covers the data on II-VI compounds, i.e. the compounds of Zn, Cd, and Hg with O, S, Se, and Te and their alloys. Special subsections are devoted to diluted or semimagnetic semiconductors. For every material the optical properties are listed first for the regime of linear optics, followed by data on the influence of internal or external fields like strain, electric or magnetic fields, and then by data on nonlinear optics. A third subvolume 34C3 will deal with the elemental semiconductors of the group IV.

目次

  • Semiconductor quantum structures.- Optical properties.- Low-dimensional structures of II-VI compounds.- General properties.- Quantum-well structures.- Superlattices and coupled quantum-well structures.- Quantum-wire structures.- Quantum dots (nanocrystals
  • self-organized, epitaxially grown nanostructures).- Figures, tables and references for each chapter or subchapter.

内容説明

At present in many fields of science research activities concentrate on the study of micro- and nanoscale materials and structures. Volume III/34 summarizes our current knowledge of semiconductor quantum structures. Subvolume 34A and 34B cover growth structuring and doping, and electronic transport, respectively. Subvolume 34C deals with the optical properties. The present subvol. 34C1 offers the theoretical and experimental basis as well as data on III-V, I-VII and IV-VI semiconductors, while subvolume 34C2 will cover the elemental semiconductors and II-VI compounds.

目次

Semiconductor quantum structures.- Optical properties.- Introduction.- Theoretical concepts.- Experimental methods.- III-V semiconductors.- I-VII semiconductors.- IV-VI semiconductors.
