内容説明
"TNM Supplement: A Commentary on Uniform Use, Second Edition" extends and clarifies the most recent version of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours, providing a monograph that amplifies and unifies the principles and practice of cancer staging. The TNM (Tumour-Node-Metastasis) classification remains the most widely used system for staging of cancer and the anatomic extent of disease represented by the TNM system is the most important predictor of outcome for most tumours. The new edition of "TNM Supplement" promotes the uniform application of the TNM classification in cancer practice. Although precise, some definitions of TNM categories may not be sufficiently detailed to cover all situations. This can lead to inconsistent application of the classification system, which is the antithesis of staging and undermines accurate assessment of prognosis. The text of the second edition of "TNM Supplement" provides explanations and examples to answer many questions that might arise during the daily use of "TNM", particularly in unusual cases.
It enumerates the recommended criteria for pathological classification (pT and pN) and contains proposed classifications for new tumour sites and types not yet part of the official UICC TNM system. Optional expansions of existing "TNM" categories are included for those needing to record more detail. An added feature is a chapter on Frequently Asked Questions, derived from the activities of the TNM Web site's "Help desk." "TNM Supplement: A Commentary on Uniform Use, Second Edition", will serve as an indispensable tool for medical oncologists, oncologic surgeons, therapeutic and diagnostic radiologists, pediatric oncologists, pathologists, cancer registrars, and others responsible for tumour staging and prognosis in cancer patients.
