Presenting an environmental strategy for China, this book is the result of a two year collaborative programme between the World Bank, the China State Environmental Protection Administration and a range of technical and research establishments. Over the past decade there has been a transformation of China, with the move to a market economy and rapid economic growth. Investment in conservation and environmental protection is being overwhelmed and there is particular strain on the land system. This report focuses on the main generic areas of land, water, air and related topics such as environmental administration. It includes a CD-ROM that contains background research and additional technical details.
