Updated for the 2000-2001 school year, the new edition of Barron's world famous Profiles of American Colleges describes every accredited four-year college in all 50 states, as well as many leading schools in Canada, Mexico, and abroad. This huge directory has three components: The Main Directory. More than 1650 schools are profiled on a state-by-state basis. Each college profile provides facts and figures on tuition and fees, admission requirements, SAT I and ACT scores of incoming freshmen, academic programs, college libraries and their facilities, housing facilities, campus safety and security accommodations, facilities for handicapped students, school-related social and athletic facilities and programs, admission office fax numbers, Website addresses, availability of descriptive videos, and much more. Each profile also rates the school's academic program, using Barron's unique scale of competitiveness that divided schools under six categories. They range from Most Competitive to Noncompetitive, with a seventh Special Classification given to major music conservatories, art schools, nursing schools, and schools with mainly adult enrollments.
Index of College Majors. This section, more than 200 pages long, is set up in table form on color-tinted paper for quick reference. The tables summarize all available academic majors offered at each school. Each college is listed alphabetically and by state.
A CD-ROM. Contained in a sealed pocket attached to the book's inside cover, the CD-ROM gives abridged profiles of each school listed in the directory. It also offers sample forms and application letters to help students find their way through the complexities of the college applicationprocess.
