This delicate, limpid work for flute (doubling piccolo and bass flute) and string trio shows Jonathan Harvey's subtle mastery of instrumental colour. Constructed from chains of highly ornamented melodies, the 17-minute quartet gradually evolves into fluid, hazy textures before uniting all the instruments in a poised, hushed dance.
`The music moves from contemplation to joyful, delicate dance. Harvey's command of mystic sonorities (piccolo and bass flute used to eloquent effect) and poised rhythms holds the listener rapt.'
