"Alumni Dublinenses" is the biographical dictionary of all students and teachers who attended Trinity College from its earliest days up until 1860. Especially useful to the historian or genealogists, it is often the only source of information available on many less-known writers and thinkers (theologians, lawyers, politicians, doctors, scientists, civil servants, and so on), figures whose lifetime achievements it would otherwise be almost impossible to discover. Containing details of over 35,000 major and "minor" Irish and non-Irish figrues from a 300-year period, the work is arranged alphabetically by surname. Trinity College, Dublin has always been the pre-eminent seat of learning in Ireland and notwithstanding its Protestant status has always been open to students of other religions. This second edition has a supplement, addenda and corrigenda. It is a reference source that should be of interest to all historical and biographical researchers coming into contact with old names from Britain and Ireland. "Alumni Dublinenses" makes a reference shelf companion to "Alumni Oxonienses" and "Alumni Cantabrigienses". The alphabeticized entry layout gives the following details: full name; educational status; schoolmaster (and location) or school; date of entry and age; parentage and profession; place of birth; qualifications; and occasional cross-referencing with over fifty other biographical and genealogical reference works.
