Description
The market scope and centrality of financial institutions has grown immeasureably in the post-industrial economy. Banking and financial sector firms now occupy an average of four of the top ten firms in each Asia-Pacific economy, managing an increasing volume of personal and public funds. Correspondingly, the range and complexity of financial products and services is expanding. The management, risk and return issues asociated with the industry sector whose product and stock-in-trade is the means of exchange for all other sectors are unique. This volume collects articles from across the Asia-Pacific which explore and explain these management complexities. The readings have been chosen for their clarity, authority and practical management value, and comprise both articles from original sources and articles commissioned for the text. Each section of readings is introduced by the editors with the chosen issues drawn out by discussion questions.
The readings are structured into parts: on the pressures on the modern financial institution; performance measurement; costs and strategies; financial products; lending; capital management; regulation; asset/liability management; and trading operations.
