Description

Paulo Herkenhoff the Brazilian critic and associate curator of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, looks at the possible connections between the work of Brazilian artists and the art production of Lucio Fontana. The starting point of the discussion is that Fontana's "wish for space" is similar to concerns rendered in Brazilian art. Fontana and Brazilian artists possibly come from a stream that has its origins in the Western art tradition and its developments in South America. Fontana is the first European modern artist to be definitely acknowledged in Latin America and to be influenced by the cultural reality of this region.
