In recent decades migration, minorities and multiculturalism have become frequent themes in European youth literature. How are minorities depicted in recently published books? How are different mentalities and cultural diversity dealt with? Do tolerant attitudes towards minorities depend only on their willingness and ability to be integrated? These questions were the focal themes of an international congress on Youth Literature in Europe, organized by the Free University of Brussels (VUB) from 25 to 26 August 2000. The conference proceedings are assembled in this volume.
