Description
The writings reprinted here explore the notion that illness is a complicated integration of the individual, the community and environmental considerations, and that any treatment should be administered accordingly. The important volume on Social Origins of Depression, by Brown and Harris, interprets the significance of social class differences and the role that stress plays in all forms of physical and psychiatric disorders. Other works, such as that of leading authority Michael Balint, explore instrumental ways in which professionals can incorporate a range of psychological considerations into their treatment of mental and physical illnesses.
