This volume presents the most recent work of an architect who has "at last achieved cult status" (Stuttgarter Zeitung) with his exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art -- and whose projects have garnered international attention and awards. During daytime Zumthor's new Kunsthaus in Bregenz gives the impression of a semi-transparent glass body, and at night it becomes a highly visible cube -- a statement in light. The interior of the building is constructed in smooth concrete, terrazo, matt glass and indirect, virtually natural light. The new Kunsthaus bears witness to Zumthor's consistently intense dialogue with the sites for which he designs. Situated on the shores of Lake Constance, the main building, with its side structure and services, creates a high quality focus in the town.
