Description
Documents of the United Nations Compensation Commission: Basic Documents is a new series accounting for the work of the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC), which was created in 1991 as a subsidiary organ of the United Nations Security Council. The Commission has accepted the filing of claims for losses or damage suffered by individuals, corporations, governments and international organizations. Since 1991, the Commission has received over 2.6 million claims seeking compensation with an asserted value in excess of US$300 billion. To date, the Commission has completed its review of more than 2.58 million claims, including all claims submitted on behalf of individuals that were classified as 'urgent'. However, the claims still to be considered by the panels of Commissioners include those claims with the largest asserted values. This volume contains selected resolutions of the Security Council concerning the situation between Iraq and Kuwait (1990-2000) and decisions of the Governing Council of the United Nations Compensation Commission establishing general guidelines and criteria relating to the processing of claims and the payment of awards.
