Description
Longstanding parasitic diseases are important as a field of study in the western world not only because of the need to provide new medicines for developing countries, but also because of the nature of these diseases. They all involve complex and unusual immunological changes which, when understood, shed light on the means of controlling our natural defence mechanism. Use of traditional imperfect drugs outside of these diseases have or could lead to new therapies in cancer, arthritis, AIDS, etc. The individual reviews in this book should provide an overview for those interested not only in tropical medicine per se but also the opportunities these offer in other fields.
