The volumes complement the two volume set, published by CQ Press in 1993, listing committee rosters and assignments in the post-war years. Now research libraries can have a complete collection of historical data available nowhere else in print. The new set, covering 1789 forward, details committee membership in Congress and the length of membership of each member. Volume 1 lists standing committees in the U.S. House of Representatives. Volume 2 lists standing committees in the U.S. Senate. Volume 3 lists the committee assignments for all members who served in Congress during this period. Volume 4 lists all select committees in Congress. Much of Congress' business was conducted through these special committees until the modern period.
