内容説明
This title explores the interaction of syntax, pragmatics, and semantics in the behaviour of verb phrases, incluing noun and prepositional phrases, and how they interact with the information provided by the verb. It also considers how the component elements of linguistic theory act together to explain and predict what appear to be simple utterances, but whose structure may be hard to analyse. The structure of "Fran is baking Mary a cake in the oven" must be different from "Fran is baking Mary a cake in the kitchen". The author explains how.
