Description
This is a companion volume to "Hockney's Posters", a selection of posters taken from Brain Baggott's collection. Hockney was interested in a variety of media, which enabled his work to travel across the boundaries of "fine art". His posters are examples of this diversity. Following on the artistic tradition of the late 19th-century masters such as Toulouse-Lautrec and the German artists of the 1920s, his work uses experimental techniques and unusual materials, and his posters were used to advertise his own exhibitions and shows, as well as plays, operas and dance performances. This book contains a selection of 40 of the most striking images since 1987, reproduced as large sized colour posters, and a complete pictorial index, which includes Hockney's whole output of posters since 1962 up to 1994, arranged in chronological order.
