内容説明
"The Germ-Plasm: A Theory of Heredity" is a key text in the debate over the inheritance of acquired characters and subsequently guided much of the work within genetics and embryology in the 20th century. Originally published in German in 1892 as "Das Keimplasma. Eine Theorie der Vererbung", this reprint is of the first English translation. August Friedrich Leopold Weismann (1834-1914), Professor of Zoology at the University of Freiburg, originated and advocated the germ plasm theory which was an explanation of heredity and development. "The Germ-Plasm" outlines this theory and the work became one of the most important contributions to biological thought in the late 19th century. Along with "The Evolution Theory", a work of equal importance and also from Thoemmes Press, this remains a valuable sourcebook for scholars of genetics and evolutionary thought.
