"The book seeks to initiate a dialogue on facets of change and continuity with reference to Uttar Pradesh. Unusual resilience and remarkable adaptivity of the state constitutes the theme for exploration. The intent is to identify factors promoting growth and those retarding the same through interdisciplinary discussions. Uneven spread of economic initiatives, differential response to force of social change and altering contours of political alignments are sought to be explored in depth as well as in coverage. Scattered wisdom on socio-economic and political dimensions of the state is accumulated for integration to identify alternative paradigms of development that will in turn facilitate action-oriented interventions with the help of social scientists."
