内容説明
The Rise of Modern Japan is intended for high school students from tenth grade and up who are taking a history of Asia or world history course. The book provides a broad overview of Japanese history from the Tokugawa period - beginning in 1700 - to the present. The text is rich in detail, offering the reader a variety of primary source documents that will enhance understanding of Japanese history. The highly readable text is supported by photos, maps, cartoons, Japanese art, literary excerpts, poems, and songs - all presenting Japan's unique culture from different historical perspectives. The authors take an activity-based approach by providing numerous projects that students can work through on their own as well as more challenging ones that teacher and student can work on together. This book has been tested extensively in the classroom and revised based on both teacher and student reaction to early drafts.
The comprehensive Teacher's Manual includes a synopsis of each section, learner outcomes, definitions of key concepts, directions for student activities, possible responses to questions and activities posed in the student text, and an estimate of the amount of time needed to complete the material. In addition, there are section overviews, a chart listing the materials and student activities in each section of the text, a guide to critical thinking skills, and handouts for selected student activities. The CD contains Japanese songs from different periods and locales. Liner notes include English translations of lyrics and information about each selection.
