内容説明
In its colonial palaces, govt. houses, town halls, churches, bungalows, post offices and hotels, the British Empire left its mark of India. These buildings were generally inspired by British styles, adapted to local conditions and build in local materials by local craftsmen. The result was some of the most surprising and delightfully eccentric buildings to be seen anywhere. Monuments of the Raj is a comprehensive study of his remarkable legacy. The text supplemented by excellent and rare photographs provide a visual expression to this legacy and draws attention to this aspect of our heritage and pleads for its long team conservation. It the words of Philip Davies, "It is a shared heritage, the physical expression of the special relationship that exists between the two countries. More than most nations, the people of India acknowledge that the past and present are a part of single continuum".
