Description and Table of Contents

Description

The papers featured in this book cover a wide range of topics related to advanced types of structures and the behaviour of composites. Originally presented at the First International Conference on High Performance Structures and Composites, the contributions highlight the latest developments in design, optimisation, manufacturing and experimentation within these areas. Most of the structures described are of the non-conventional type because their design is based on new concepts or new types of materials, while a considerable number of papers focus on new types of composites, including those using natural fibres whose importance continues to increase as ecologically friendly alternatives are explored. Over 60 papers from scientists and engineers working in many countries are included and these cover: composite structures; natural fibre composites; material characterisation; high performance concrete; damage and fracture mechanics; active and passive control systems; optimal design; fabrics; health monitoring; and industrial applications.
