Description
In 1986, on the 100th birthday of the automobile, DaimlerChrysler Corporation commissioned Pop Art icon Andy Warhol to make a series of 80 car pictures to document the history of the automobile from 1886 to the present. Using 20 different Mercedes models, 35 pictures and 12 large format paintings were executed - the last series ever produced by the artist. Along with the total series reproduced in the publication, other commissioned works by the car manufacturer are explored, thus investigating the many faceted subject of business art. Art created by Robert Longo, Simone Westerwinter and Mathis Neidhart is discussed. Interviews with artists including John Armleder, Jeff Koons, and Sarah Morris serve to highlight the subject matter of the book.
