内容説明

In his "Philosophy of Modern Music", Theodor W. Adorno analyzes what he called "radical music" and discusses in detail the innovative work of Mahler, of Schoenberg and his disciples, and the early compositions of Stravinsky. As in all his writings, Adorno brings a wide array of cultural and social themes to bear on these subjects, so that individual musical works are seen in their broadest political and sociological setting. At the same time, the book remains a study of the works themselves, and as such is a classic study of serious 20th century music. Published for the first time in Germany in 1948, "Philosophy of Modern Music" is a product of Adorno's exile in the United States, where he wrote it while National Socialism fell in his European homeland.
