Description and Table of Contents

Description

The first part of this guide examines Western Germany, the great success story of postwar Europe. Widely seen as being safe and materialistic, it is also home to the continent's largest and most influential peace and ecology movements, while its landscapes, ranging from the majestic Bavarian Alps to the restored Hanseatic cities of the north, have surprises enough to fill months of travel. Until the revolution of 1989, travel within much of Eastern Germany presented colossal problems for Westerners. Now, places which have been almost impossible to visit for over 40 years are now readily accessible - and at remarkable low prices. The second part of the guide breaks new ground by describing the East in the same detail as the Western part of Germany. Whether one is looking for the lowdown on Munich's nightspots, wandering through the Black Forest, or seeking out the time-warped towns of the east, this guide will help and inform.
