Die beiden Bande enthalten die wichtigsten Beitrage des 5. Internationalen Kongresses der Society for Emblem Studies (Munchen 1999). Unter dem Tagungstitel "Polyvalenz und Multifunktionalitat in der Emblematik" widmeten sich die einzelnen Sektionen folgenden Bereichen: Emblemtheorie, Regionale Emblematik, Emblemata physica, Emblemata academica, Emblemata politica, Emblemata sacra, Emblemata moralia, Angewandte Emblematik.
These two volumes contain the most important contributions of the 5th international congress of the Society for Emblem Studies (Munich 1999). Under the title "Multivalence and Multifunctionality in Emblematics" the single sections deal with the following fields: The theory of the emblem, Regional emblematics, Emblemata physica, Emblemata academica, Emblemata politica, Emblemata sacra, Emblemata moralia, Applied emblematics.
