Description

This book is an outcome of a dialogue among theoreticians and practitioners of literacy who came together at a national symposium on Literacy in Hyderabad. It provides a place for conflicting voices on literacy and education in India. The volume is a collection of fifteen essays carrying a whole range of views on literacy and its practice in contemporary India and forms part of the on-going series Research in Applied Linguistics. The contributors include government officials, activists, NGO workers, representatives of women's organizations, university teachers and research scholars, this presenting a comprehensive view of the different issues related to literacy and literacy drives in India.
