Plautus' plays represent our earliest remains of Latin literature. They thus form a unique record of the language at an early stage; and, though in verse, their dramatic nature also preserves much of colloquial usage. Lindsay's summary of Plautine syntax is presented in handy form: colloquialisms, cases, adjective, pronoun, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection each receive systematic treatment.
